Most travel guides advise tourists to hire a driver and car when travelling around Sri Lanka. But if you are a confident driver it is worth considering hiring your own car. Hire something that is a decent size – size definitely matters on Sri Lankan roads. Take the
chance and you will be rewarded, we loved having the freedom of self-driving, and the road to Mirissa is one of the better ones.
The Casa Colombo Collection Mirissa makes a great first impression. As you stand on the hotel’s threshold your eyes fill with turquoises and yellows of pool, sand, and ocean – all framed by the hotel’s fabulous architectural décor. As you immerse yourself in clean colours and cool breeze coming in off the Indian Ocean, your personal butler (or ‘Casa Domo’) will introduce himself, and it is at this point that your life begins to feel complete. Your Domo may be casually dressed, but don’t be misled – he is just as
helpful as an old fashioned Jeeves and is available to assist your every need via your own assigned mobile phone, 24/7.It is not hard to see why this place is a favourite beach getaway of the jetset of Colombo, they come here to escape the city without having to leave behind style and comfort. Casa Mirissa epitomises the boutique hotel in both size and style. The 6 suites and 1 villa are designed with flair and confidence, and they get it just right. Expect to enquire about where you can buy their furniture. You can laze away the day in their pool sipping cocktails and if it takes your fancy, you can make the hardly strenuous 10 metre stroll onto your private stretch of Mirissa Beach, with the magic of the Indian Ocean stretching before you. Mirissa is also a great launch-pad for the spectacular sights of Southern Sri Lanka. The town is now recognized as the world’s foremost location to see the Earth’s largest animal, the Blue Whale, and departures at the wharf are but a tuk-tuk ride away. Alternatively, within an hour and a half is Galle, a gorgeous and well preserved Dutch fort, packed with history and lovely boutiques. You could even make your way into the lush green hills of Sri Lanka’s iconic tea country and be home in time for a sundowner.
