Standing in Dam Square, looking up at the face of the hotel’s landmark building face, you will spy a beautiful turret on its top. It is the Rooftop Stage Suite and if you are lucky enough to book it, you will enjoy one-of-a-kind 360-degree views over the Dam, the eminent Royal Palace and the city.
Greeted by an impeccably dressed doorman, there’s a sudden spell that is cast as soon as you cross the weighty, ornamental doors and gates of its threshold. A hush replaces the clamour of the tourist-littered street outside and a seductive signature scent floats in the air. As you are led upstairs, it becomes apparent, very quickly, that the hotels’ creators have spared no expense in selecting the finest furnishings, ensuring that every inch is packed with texture and delightful detail. Caressing with your eyes or fingers over the pillows and bedsheets, the fabrics of Rubelli, or the hand-crafted silk carpets by EBRU, you will feel that even the walls themselves ooze curated quality.
As with any true luxury boutique hotel, each suite is unique. Yet, the same masterful hand, in this case the hand of award-winning designer Wim van de Oudeweetering, weaves a thread of rich, dark, tempting tones through each luxurious room.
Bubbles and baths are combined with the help of powerful jets in outrageously large tubs in each suite. The rain showers are by no means an inferior bathing choice, filled as they are with all sorts of downpour settings, along with chromotherapy colours to soak you in purples, reds and blues.
