Origins

The Great George Inn has been a mainstay in Charlottetown dating back to the 1800s. The Inn was once known as the Pavilion Hotel and hosted some of the delegates from the 1864 Charlottetown
Conference on Union, where PEI became the birthplace of Confederation. Many years later, Mike Cassidy and Kevin Murphy purchased the property with the goal to return it to its original state. All adjacent buildings were purchased turning an entire city block into what we now know as the Great George Inn. Kevin and Kathy Murphy currently own and operate the Great George Inn.

The Review

The Great George Inn offers a variety of spacious rooms and condos to suit a wide range of traveling needs. The hotel lobby upon arrival was a quaint mixture of old and new world charm.  I was greeted with freshly baked cookies and tasty wine as well as friendly, knowledgeable staff.  Our visit to the hotel lobby was completed by the appearance of our nation's historical Fathers of Confederations who stroll downtown in 19th century costumes throughout the summer months.  The vintage exterior quickly gives way to modern and upscale interior design.  Our condo was conveniently located in the heart of beautiful downtown Charlottetown, within walking distance to lively musical shows and
plays, St. Dunstan's Basilica Church, and the beautiful harbour. The condo comprised of 2 large bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, laundry, kitchen, and all the amenities of home.  The staff at the Inn were extremely attentive and offered extras to make their guests feel welcome, such as a fresh bouquet of flowers and a gift basket with local jams and preserves.  Staff also had a wealth of knowledge regarding Island nightlife, cultural escapes, and activities suited for the whole family. When hunger strikes, the hotel offers a variety of independent restaurants situated only footsteps away. From a delicious Steakhouse or relaxing Gastro pub to a delightful seafood and oyster bar that show cases young talent with live music playing, you will not be left unsatisfied.
