Palala is a boutique game lodge set on a secluded five thousand hectare estate. As you draw up, you will be struck by the modernist architecture (no thatched cottages here!) which you can soak up as you enjoy Palala's signature welcome cocktail. Step into the lobby and be amazed by the infinity pool overlooking the hotel's stunning lake and if you're lucky you might even spot a hippo!
Palala's guest rooms are set around a peaceful courtyard with views into the bush. Each one has been individually designed with African-inspired interiors to the highest standards. The rooms are palatial in size with impeccable attention to detail. From the plush bedding, to the regal bathroom adorned with marble; you can't help but feel you've made it. For an extra special treat, upgrade to one of the 4 corner suites, complete with separate lounge area, guest bathroom and panoramic views over the estate.
What really sets Palala apart is the luxury of being able to enjoy the best of African wildlife in a private setting. Walk amongst lion and leopard enclosures, and enjoy a sundowner whilst watching them play. Knowledgeable rangers lead daily game drives on the estate, where you will see rhinos at the watering hole, kudu and impala, and species of birds that you have only read about in books. For an extra thrill, ask for a bicycle tour for up-close encounters and a quick lesson in identifying animals from their footprints or droppings!
The experience at Palala takes exclusivity to a new level. Unlike lodges in public reserves, you can enjoy all activities at your leisure with no other groups to compete with. You may be taken to a secret bush location for breakfast or even a romantic fire-lit supper on the lake.
Meals are served in the Matoppie restaurant where fine dining takes on a new level in a relaxed setting with a striking artistic take on the tree that the restaurant is named after. You can also enjoy meals outside on the terrace, watching sunrise at breakfast or under the stars at night. Choose from the exquisite a la carte menu which is complemented by a wine list showcasing the best of South Africa's vineyards. You can also go for the tasting menu freshly prepared by the executive chef.
