A stay at WeidumerHout is sure to relax the body and nourish the soul – a memorable trip in every respect. If you are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, WeidumerHout is the perfect base from which to discover the characteristically Dutch landscapes of Friesland. Under two hours by car from Amsterdam, located near the river Zwette and part of the Eleven Cities route, WeidumerHout evokes a truly rural and peaceful atmosphere. Eddy and Geke have updated the farmhouse to provide all the splendour and modern conveniences of a boutique hotel in an environmentally friendly manner, whilst retaining period features and the building’s history wherever possible.
WeidumerHout enjoys unparalleled views of the vast green meadows of Friesland. Eddy and Geke were inspired to take advantage of these magnificent views by installing ten outdoor “hotel cubes”, each holding one individual room and strategically located to provide maximum privacy. With windmills and ancient villages in the distance, the cubes float serenely in the green sea of the pastures and the glass walls create a sense of living “outdoors”. From the Nespresso coffee machines in each room to the designer furnishings and linen, the simple and functional design includes thoughtful features and amenities to ensure that guests need only focus on basking in the bliss and calm of the environment.
Hours slip by whilst pondering the views from the hotel’s pastures, enjoying the sumptuous sunset from the orchard, relaxing in the lounge or terrace with a home-made aperitif or regional beer, or melting away stress in the private solarium and Finnish sauna. For those feeling more active, a rental fleet of bicycles and canoes are available for discovering Friesland or taking day trips to nearby Sneek, Franeker and Leeuwarden. Eddy and his team go to great efforts to provide each client with a personal experience, and will happily draw from their in-depth knowledge of the area to design individual tours and routes for guests.
Finally, the restaurant, where exposed beams and vaulted high ceilings give the candlelit dining room a cosy and intimate ambience. Here, guests enjoy an innovative, seasonal menu making use of the restaurant’s own smoker and vegetable garden. The air of distinctiveness pervading throughout WeidumerHout continues, with special “mystery” dishes created by the chef and courses served in entremets format.
