A labour of love by Santorini’s top engineer, every element of this hotel was a first of its kind, with the unique location, endless space, and meticulous attention to detail. When his father passed away in 2011, the now owner Sotiris carried on his father’s legacy, building on the unique tranquility and oasis of calm his father created.
Nestled into the hillside overlooking Santorini, Carpe Diem is a sanctuary of barefoot luxury. Curl up on a sumptuous white sunbed by the infinity pool with fresh lemonade, and you will find it hard to leave the resort at all. Made up of 10 luxury suites, each with their own private pool and terrace overlooking the island, Carpe Diem offers complete calm and privacy, barely coming across another guest during your stay. The suites, carved out of volcanic rock and stone, are renovated every year, offering elegant luxury and minimalism. Vita suite with its private champagne bar and heated pool stands out in particular.
Breakfast, delicious and made to order, can be had in the restaurant overlooking the pool and magnificent 270 degree view, or set up on your private terrace if you prefer to breakfast in your dressing gown. Spend the remainder of your days lounging by the pool, sampling the restaurant’s local Greek dishes and deliciously fresh fish, and perhaps meandering up to the spa for a massage and private use of the large jacuzzi, sauna and steamroom.
If you are looking to leave the zen-like bubble of the resort, wander ten minutes up the cobbled paths to charming Pyrgos. Unspoiled by tourists, Pyrgos is an impossibly picturesque Greek village with some of the best restaurants on the island. Dotted with churches, local boutiques, and inviting tavernas twinkling on the hill side, it is a perfect part of Santorini to explore, and get to see some of the more traditional aspects of the island.
