An iron gate on the first floor hides the untouched library of the noble family that lived in the Castle until 2011. If you ask a staff member, you will have the opportunity to discover this unique book collection that encloses historical treasures, including hand-written diaries dating back from the Middle Ages and belonging to Count Carlo Giacinto Roero’s private collection.
Carlo Giacinto decided to turn the Middle Age fortress into a magnificent baroque-style summer castle for his family to enjoy. The Castle was impressively preserved by the aristocratic family for generations. Inhabited until as late as 2011, the luxurious boutique hotel Castle opened to the public in 2015.
Proudly overlooking the old town of Guarene, the Castello can be spotted from afar, making the property a landmark of the Asti Region. The stunning and noble stone building makes the perfect spot to appreciate the breath-taking landscape of Piedmont. Whether with its endless rustic vines in summer or snow-coated hills in winter, the UNESCO-preserved panorama will stun any guest all year round.
As you enter the castle through a stately wooden gate marking the medieval-time entrance, you are immediately taken a few centuries back. High ceilings, chandeliers in every room, stone walls and an authentic collection of Italian paintings – the Castello di Guarene boasts every ingredient to provide guests with a timeless castle experience.
From a high-end gourmet restaurant to a stunning cave-decorated spa, the Castle owners have successfully blended modern luxury comfort within the authentic baroque environment almost identical to what it looked like when the royal couple of Italy visited the newly-refurbished castle in 1773.
The cave-like spa smoothly blends into the castle original architecture and offers guests the tranquillity and relaxation needed throughout this royal retreat. It displays a sauna, a cold room, a pool, a Turkish bath, panoramic terraces and a Jacuzzi, for guests to freely enjoy throughout the day.
In addition to visiting nearby wineries all year round, guests, lucky enough to make it during the truffle season – taking place from October to November, have the opportunity to take part in the traditional white truffle hunt. Although this is an early-bird activity – starting around 3am, this unique internationally-renowned experience will be worth every bite of the special truffle menu available at dinner!
Since its opening, the Castle is home to an exceptionally high-end restaurant, led by the young and creative chef Gabriele. We particularly recommend the several set menus that were harmoniously devised by the chef to provide guests with the finest Italian dining experience. Doing justice to its location, the passionate sommelier will guide you through the selection of exquisite wines to best pair your food with.
