From the moment you board the seaplane from Vancouver, the adventure begins. Flying over colossal mountain ranges, lush rainforest and the Pacific Ocean, guests will marvel at the never-ending panoramas. With a swift turn, what seems like you are in the middle of nowhere soon reveals itself to be the wonder that is Clayoquot Wilderness Resort. On landing, guests hear the clippity-clop of horse hoofs, in which they are then taken via horse and carriage to a champagne reception. Greeted by staff and the Co General Managers, Bradley and Antonella, guests are given an orientation talk which reminds you how remote and amongst nature you are – with warnings of no food in the accommodation or guests may be frequented by the local bears.
Guest accommodation comes in the form of luxury tents. These spacious, en-suite canvas residences give the feel of camping in style, yet provides the luxuries of warmth from a remote-controlled cast iron ‘woodstove’, a king-sized bed and a bathroom that hosts an outdoor shower. Each tent is set along the water’s edge and on the hillside overlooking the estuary.
After waking from a wonderful night’s sleep, hearing the sounds of birds calling, guests can make their way to the Cookhouse, in which breakfast is served from 6.30am with an a la carte menu being offered from 7am. Guests are encouraged to have an early start in order to make the most of the adventures that are yet to come.
Dining at Clayoquot Wilderness Resort is an experience in itself. Executive Chef Michael Pataran and his amazing team, work diligently to create a menu rooted in sustainable, locally grown, foraged and harvested ingredients sourced almost entirely from Clayoquot Sound and Vancouver Island, and delivered daily to the resort by boat.
