"A charming classic hotel woven into the roots of a castle-topped hill"

Need to know

    • 78 total including 5 suites.
    • Check-out time: 12 noon

We love

  • During the summer months you can take a private 5-course dinner perched on the rooftop balcony with a beautiful view of the castle
  • The coolest feature of this place is how it feels like you’re part of the little mountain that it sits at the feet of. From the yoga studio to the backs of the staircases you’ll see you’re just a few meters from the raw backbone rocks that form the base of the hill.
  • The very reasonably priced treatments at the hotel's wellness spa.

An extra little something

A great big fruit plate and a couple of freshley baked cakes waiting for you in your room.

Top Secret

There’s an alternative route up to the castle called the Brezina wooden path, you can find it by going left out of the hotel and walk along a couple of hundred metres before you’ll find it on your left. It’s beautiful, quiet and it takes you right up to the back of the castle.

Created by Baron Armin Popper who envisioned a place to eat, drink and be merry. It eventually became a hotel 1902 and is now owned by the Czech entrepreneur and politician Ivo Valenta, otherwise known as the 'King of Gambling'.

The Review

Checking into the room we were pleasantly surprised with a couple of chocolate pastries on a slate, very thoughtful considering the lateness of the hour and that I’d missed dinner. After a restful sleep we enjoyed a hearty continental breakfast that includes a colourful pomegranate salad, freshly baked selection of bread from a great bakery across the street and a choice of prepared eggs and bacon or you can have something thrown in to the frying pan on hand for something extra fresh. We took a climb up the hill to Trencin castle at its peak on the first morning. The walk up allows you to take in the staggered outer walls, turrets and towers, which look rather old-worldly nestled in the green wooded surroundings. Reading a little of the castles history of torture and dungeon prisons renew your sense that whilst the 21st century has its problems, they are far fewer than the 13th!

Yoga in the 4th floor studio followed by a massage, swim and sauna in the hotel’s very own wellness spa is a winning combination.
